The Class a Liquor License allows the venue to sell alcohol during most hours of the day, but the owner said he has no plans to do that. Aldermen were split 4-4 on the issue, with Des Plaines Mayor Marty Moylan casting the tie vote that gave approval at the Feb. 20 board meeting.

“He stated that he would not…operate (the theater) as a bar,” Moylan said of the establishment’s owner, Dhitu Bhagwakar. “You have to take him for his word.”

Two weeks prior, aldermen gave the theater initial approval for the liquor permit, but peppered the owner with questions at Monday’s proceeding. unlike some communities, Des Plaines doesn’t have a specific liquor license for theaters. Since its grand re-opening last November, the theater has been able to sell alcohol at some events using one-day liquor licenses.

Council members asked to limit liquor sales to performances and shows, but were told a new ordinance would need to be created, which could take two to three months, said City Attorney Dave Wiltse.

Ald. Dan Wilson said he enjoyed the theater’s Christmas show, where alcohol was served, but felt he needed more input from residents in the neighborhood before issuing the Class a liquor permit.

“according to the license you’re going to get, anytime you want, you can open the front doors, let people walk in…and it becomes a tavern,” Wilson told Bhagwakar.

Bhagwakar told aldermen it doesn’t make economical sense to have an employee running the bar when shows or events are not being held.

Ald. Mark Walsten pointed out the theater will not just host shows and movies, but after-hour work functions. Bhakwakar added he plans to have some kind of event at the establishment every night.

“As far as I’m concerned, he should have every right to be open when the… liquor license says he should,” Walsten said.

Thirdly, she looked gorgeous and we really want to know exactly what is in her make up bag because whatever it is, we need it. but as much as we love happy Adele, we also enjoyed…

3) Angry Adele. the lady gives a stunning performance, wins a load of awards and how do the Brits thank her? By shoving her off stage before she is even allowed to thank her mum and pet hamster. Unforgiveable. BAD CALL, BRITS, BAD CALL. instead, they give Blur about half an hour to reel off everyone they ever encountered, anywhere, ever, and do four songs which sound like something one may run into on the last train home when the football’s been on. 4) a special mention to Adele’s middle finger which, following her interruption, made an unexpected, yet brilliantly effective, MIA-inspired cameo appearance. it did what we were all thinking. 5) we also couldn’t have done it without Rihanna’s thighs. Everyone thought she was going to be all hungover after she ‘celebrated her birthday’ the night before but she pulled through and got the room jumping. well, she got Florence Welch jumping anyway, literally. still in her lovely dress, Florence was leaping about like a sequined gazelle down the front. Alas, none of her fellow table dwellers would join in. They’re probably all far too cool for jumping. also, while on the subject of Riri, when she won best International Female, we spotted Ed Sheeran nudging his mate as she went past his table. It’s alright Ed, we think she’s fit too.

6) we would also like to mention the fitting tributes to Whitney Houston and Amy Winehouse who were both honoured individually during the show. but dare we say, they felt a little short. but this was BEFORE Adele’s acceptance speech for best Album… 7) big thanks to the possibly overlooked Harry Styles’ awkward hello to Caroline Flack. we spied the pair bump into each other and have one of the most awkward hugs we’ve seen in a while. the meeting was fleeting and Harry seems to have found new love in the arms of Ed Sheeran. we spotted Harry hanging out at Ed’s table for much of the evening and noticed their simultaneous hair ruffling: mirroring each other’s body language: it must be love! Shout out to Bruno Mars who it turns out, is even smaller than Kylie in the flesh. Honestly, we had no idea men came so small. And while on the subject of men we fancy, is it weird that we find Rizzle Kicks quite hot? And Jack Whitehall? 9) if we could take this opportunity to check in on Nicole Scherzinger who got rather caught up in Blur mayhem. for some reason unknown, Ms Scherzinger decided to leave the auditorium in the middle of Blur’s set, meaning she, with the aid of about four helpers, had to wrestle their way past a raving Fearne Cotton and a moshing one Direction. No one was giving up good party, even for a Pussycat Doll. 10) just simply: Rob Brydon and will.i.am. whoever thought of putting these two together is a genius, they deserve their very own award. Wow, here is a formula that works. can someone PLEASE get them a chat show asap…OR maybe they could just host next year?! 11) And finally, we know we can’t all be winners but that didn’t make that awkward moment when Jessie J does a bit of a Craig David and wins no awards any easier…but at least she had a very lovely, nice red dress on even if we could see her bum through it. oh and P.S: 12) are we the only ones who are a bit disappointed that Foo Fighters couldn’t even be bothered to accept their award EVEN via video tape?  No Dave Grohl to be seen, instead we just got Taylor Hawkins. if Adele can make it to the Grammys then Dave can wave at a webcam…

Anderson says DreamHost has now turned off autoupdates and will now manually update Debian after “significant testing.”

“There’s always a balance to be struck between speed, efficiency, security and issue prevention, but this event has shown us that we need to take a different approach,” Anderson said in a statement. “again, my apologies for the downtime experienced today. We’re acutely focused on adjusting our processes and systems to ensure we do a better job going forward.”

While DreamHost used its status page to update customers, judging by the comments on the post, many still felt out of the loop and thought that the status page wasn’t updated often enough. There are almost 950 comments on the status page, and more talk of dissatisfaction with DreamHost’s service on Twitter. In the comments section of the status page, many customers were looking for suggestions for other web hosting providers. It seems like this could provide marketing collateral for other web hosts looking to scoop up some unhappy customers from DreamHost. It is unclear if DreamHost will offer affected customers any sort of refund for the downtime on Sunday.

In a separate post on Monday DreamHost said its admin team had temporarily taken its Simple one Click install services offline. It appears that this is unrelated to Sunday’s outage, however some customers in the comment section claim their websites had been down for more than 24 hours, likely due to Sunday’s incident.

Earlier this month, the WHIR interviewed DreamHost technical support manager Brian Hill on its customer support. DreamHost provides mostly email support, but keeps its customers informed of any issues through its status page.

“Over time we have noticed that the less information we give the more mad people get. If we can try to make sure that we are as verbose as possible that usually helps people feel better about what’s going on,” Hill said in the interview.

A win over second-place Cleveland State would greatly improve their chances of hosting a first-round conference tournament game in one week.

Addressing attendees at the company’s Evolve Conference on the Gold Coast, TechnologyOne founder and executive chairperson, Adrian Di Marco, said the launch was the result of 18 months of research and development into Cloud and would be run solely through an internet browser.

“TechnologyOne Cloud will be available anywhere, on any device — all our customers need is internet access,” he said.

The TechnologyOne Cloud will be responsible for business’ services, software and infrastructure but Di Marco said he did not want to with label it an infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) or software-as-a-service (SaaS).

“We’re avoiding those terms because there’s a lot of connotations that come with it,” he said. “People can call it whatever they like but to me it is about TechOne providing them and end-to-end service and result.”

The service will be based on a yearly service fee, which is based on the annual licence fee the business pays and will include software, infrastructure and upgrades, and customers which have existing licences will be transferred to the Cloud.

The company has partnered with Amazon to develop the platform, using the Web giant’s core infrastructure.

“Underneath the covers it’s Amazon that we’re using. We’re using their elasticity, their enterprise grade infrastructure and then we build on top of that our enterprise suite and that will be delivered to the marketplace.”

Data will initially be stored in three Amazon data centres in the UK, the US and in Singapore, with plans to establish an Australian data centre in the next six months.

“If Amazon don’t come over to Australia we will partner with another local company to do it. Initially we thought Amazon has the huge scale which works in the US, UK and Singapore, and early adopters will be happy with that.”

With customers in the government, finance and education sectors, storing data offshore may be an issue for some customers, Di Marco conceded. “I think it will depend on just how sensitive the data in question is. A lot of them will probably wait for the next little while until we launch an Australian facility. “I think the whole data sovereignty issue will just end up disappearing. I think it’s an overreaction and in 12 months time people aren’t going to care to be honest but at this stage it is an obstacle to overcome.”

The next five years will involve the establishment of the company’s enterprise software as applications to be delivered via an online store where customer will be able to buy apps individually, update them using a personal profile, give feedback and leave comments.

“This will transform the relationship with our customers and our products, marking the end of software releases, which will be replaced by continual updates driven by customer feedback.

“The five year investment will include the creation of the consolidation release which is the common release for both the Cloud and the on-premise customers and then shipping, which we are now, the app infrastructure so people can download apps. Then it’s delivering the simplicity theme throughout all of the products, so [as to] make them more consumer-based.” Business that do not currently run TechnologyOne software will also be able to invest in the Cloud platform, Di Marco said, with a team dedicated to look at the software being used by a company and how to bring it to the Cloud.

“It may be that we take other products from TechOne to facilitate that or maybe we just host those existing products in the Cloud.

“We see the Cloud as having two parts to it: The core engine of the Cloud which is our enterprise suite, which is rolled out to thousands of customers [and] which is massively scalable, and then there will be periphery areas, which are the areas where customers have some non-standard stuff that we will host for them as well, we need to able to support both.”

The company is cautious about encouraging customers to move to the Cloud platform and will run it in parallel to the company’s on-premise business so customers can choose when to make the jump.

“We have a parallel path so our customers will move forward with the Ci [Connected Intelligence] series in parallel and get the app infrastructure and browser-based applications.”
